about
My name is Amy Christine Nugent. (->amychr, see?)
I am a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington with qualifications in Philosophy and English Literature. In English my interests have been modern fantasy writing, tales of adventure, and the development of the novel in the nineteenth century. In philosophy I’ve concentrated on metaethics and modern ethical theory, with broad study in metaphysics as well as political philosophy. Right now I’m studying independently for entry into an honours program in Maths (yes, following my roots out of the humanities back into science).
When I’m not in school, reading, or writing perl scripts to do my bidding (mwahahahaha!) I am usually playing World of Warcraft, watching SciFi (read Stargate Atlantis, Flash Gordon, et al), or tormenting my LaTeX install.
Hi!
Okay, I’ve tried out your Book Magic. It’s nice, but it seems limited to look at one directory at a shot.
The problem I have, is that I’ve been collecting ebooks for years. Even organizing the files into directories is a royal pain. (at least with fiction, I can place the ebooks into author folders/directories.) To give you an example of how bad it is: Last week I just finished somewhat organizing .pdf science fiction and blew past 25,000+ Yes, yes I know there are duplicates and some of the .pdf’s are just stories as opposed to books.
But now, I’m facing non-fiction. I don’t even a clue on the organization method to use. Dewey Decimal System? LOC? Heck, Medical text alone is over 300+ ebooks. I make a slight joke to friends that I could restart civilization with the ebooks I have. *sigh*
And this does not include my video library or music. (For my mother, I completed all the Elvis movies, all the James Bond movies, coming close to all the Disney animation. For myself, I like science fiction, so I have all Babylon 5, and thinking about completing all of Star Trek, and will most likely complete SG-1, later this month.)
Ebooks, I read using a combination of iPod Touch and Sony Readers. (I have a PRS-700 and PRS-505, I gave my sister my old PRS-500.) I just feed movies and TV shows to my mother using iTunes and Apple TV. Yes, I have multiple computers. No, I don’t get out much.
I’m the primary caregiver, for my mother, who has dementia. So having a life, isn’t exactly an option.
I know the guy running manybooks.net is running his webserver on a Mac mini, I’m thinking of hitting him up for some answers, too.
Until Later,
Ken
